I. Before the session
Before your newborn photography session, I will send you a questionnaire so I can learn a little bit about you and your new baby. This will also give me a good idea of what your ideas and preferences for the session are. This allows me to tailor the experience specifically to your family's needs. If you really want to remember the way your newborn smiles, or the way your older children snuggle the newest member of your family, I can focus on trying to capture that moment. If your baby had any birth complications, letting me know will be extremely helpful in making sure baby is safely posed at ALL times! I will have questions in my questionnaire specifically tailored toward this topic, so please just be as open and honest as possible. Just because your baby has had health complications does not mean that the session will be called off, but rather altered to fit their specific needs! If we have scheduled an in home session, I may ask that you send photos of the rooms inside your home. Why? So I can see which rooms have the best natural light! If the nursery is a spot you're specifically interested in getting photos in, I may have you send that over at the same time. If you have decided to schedule an outdoor newborn session, I will help you with picking the best location for outdoor sessions. Let's find somewhere that feels like your family! To reserve your date and get officially booked on my schedule, a 50% non-refundable retainer is required at the time of booking.

II. During the session

During the session, all you'll need to do is relax and focus on enjoying your beautiful, growing family in that moment. I'll be taking care of the rest! I offer both posed and lifestyle/documentary styled images for newborn sessions, and we can include both styles in your newborn session if you'd like! I always go at baby's pace. Baby will let me know when they're not comfortable or happy, and I take that as a sign to switch things up! When family is included, I'll guide you into a position, one of which will surely be snuggling up with your sweet, tiny baby, and you can all just hang out there for a bit while I snap away. Your little one may start to smile mid-dream and that's perfect. Gently, I'll welcome the rest of your family into the embrace: whether it's just your partner or the other precious little one's you've had the joy of raising. Whenever I get your family in a nice position, and I notice the little ones have settled down, I'll make sure to get those good smiling at the camera shots around your new baby! If your little one become restless, or maybe even a bit hungry, that's not a problem. I include more time with my newborn packages so that we can take the needed time to settle and feed your little one before resuming our session.
III. After the session
Standard sessions:
I will edit and deliver 3-5 sneak peek images within 72 hours of your session. Within 4 to 6 weeks you will receive a proof gallery containing a fully edited, watermarked gallery. From this gallery, you can select 35 images that are included with the price of your package, but will also have the option to purchase extra images, or the full gallery at an additional cost. Once you have selected the images you'd like, and paid for any additional images you may want, I will send you a final gallery without a watermark where you will be able to view download, print, and share your images as you'd like!
Premium sessions:
Once your session has concluded, I will edit and deliver 5-10 sneak peek images within 72 hours of your session. I like to deliver sneak peeks since, many times, having a professional photoshoot done is a big deal! Your final gallery will be delivered within 4-6 weeks of your scheduled session. You will be able to view, download, print, and share your images as you'd like!

Lifestyle vs. Posed Newborn Sessions
FAQ
Do you have any safety training with newborns?
Yes! I have taken multiple courses on how to safely pose, wrap, and handle your little one. I know it can be stressful passing your newborn over to someone you barely know, that's why I will keep you updated on everything I do! I also always go at baby's pace. So if they tell me they're unhappy, and it's not because they're hungry or needing a change, I take that as a sign to swap what I am doing and move on. For this reason, I don't "guarantee" any specific posed image, because if your baby doesn't like it, I won't push it!
Do you offer any deals if I book multiple sessions with you?
Yes! I offer 3 Collections to document your baby's earliest days. Check out the Collections tab under "Pricing and Packages" to find all 3 of the Collections I offer and see if any of those fit your needs! All 3 Collections will also take off a considerable amount of money!
What's the difference between a Lifestyle Newborn Session and a Posed Newborn Session?
A Lifestyle Newborn Session focuses on the natural, tender moments of your family during those early days with your baby. These sessions typically take place in your home and capture your family as you truly are, including snuggling together on the couch, feeding your baby, rocking them in the nursery, or simply soaking in those sweet newborn moments. While lifestyle sessions feel more relaxed and candid, I will still gently guide and pose you in natural ways to create beautiful, connected images.
Posed Newborn Sessions begins with baby on my posing table, where I safely guide your little one into professionally styled poses. These sessions focus more on artistic newborn portraits, including wrapped poses, tiny details, and carefully curated setups. If you choose to, I offer family images at the end where the parents and siblings can be photographed with your newest little family member.
Both session styles are designed to preserve this special season of life. The best choice depends on whether you prefer the warmth and authenticity of a lifestyle session or the classic, artistic feel of a posed newborn session.
Is there anything I need to bring with me for our session?
You don't have to bring anything if you don't have personal items you want to include! I will have many items available to use during our session including outfits, swaddles, blankets, plushies/lovies, bonnets, tiebacks, and props.
Some things I recommend bringing, if you choose, are any outfits you'd like baby to wear, personal items such as personal blankets/quilts, stuffed animals/plushies, sonogram/ultrasound, and any other sentimental/personal items you may want to incorporate into your baby's photos. I have all families bring their diaper bags with and if your baby uses any soother, like a pacifier, I recommend having that with you as well.
Are travel expenses included in your packages or covered additionally?
All sessions receive no additional travel expenses within 45 minutes of Peoria, IL. If you have decided to book one of my Premium packages you can enjoy up to 90 minutes of comped travel expenses. Beyond those limits, my travel fee is $50 per hour of travel.
If you're looking to book in Chicago, there are specific days I have available with no travel fee.
When is the best time to book my baby's newborn session?
You can book your session at any time, but I generally recommend reaching out before your baby is born to ensure I have availability in my schedule around your expected due date. I typically schedule newborn sessions within the first 2 weeks after birth. During this time, babies still have their fresh newborn details that quickly fade away, so it is ideal to book your session for this time frame. When you book, we will set a tentative date within 7-10 days of your due date.
Once your little one arrives, you can reach out to confirm or adjust that date as needed. I leave flexibility in my schedule around the time of your session in case anything needs to be adjusted. If you feel you need additional time to recover from birth, you're more than welcome to schedule a later newborn session. When baby is closer to 6-8 weeks at the time of our session, I tend to move away from posed photos by that point.
Where should I have my session?
Your newborn session can take place outdoors, in-home, in my studio, or maybe you'd prefer to rent a studio you like. I typically recommend in-home or in-studio sessions for newborns since we can control the temperature to make sure baby is sleepy. There is a studio in the Central IL area available for rent that provides a home-like experience if you want a lifestyle setting, but don't want to worry about tidying up your home. If you are interested in seeing some photos from this location, let me know and I can send some over!
If you aren't sure where you'd like to pick as your location, I am more than happy to help. During our conversations prior to booking, I can help you decide & chat with you about some of the benefits of being in-home or in a studio, as well as my favorite locations in the area we could plan your newborn session for!
What is the best time of day for a session?
For outdoor sessions, lighting is usually best in the late afternoon or early evening hours right before sunset. That golden hour lighting is quite beautiful as long as the weather permits. I also love an overcast sky, so no matter what, we can make it work! I completely understand that this time isn't practical for all families. In-home and in studio session allow for more flexibility in timing. If you really want those sleepy photos of your little one, I highly recommend scheduling your session for the morning or early afternoon. After you inquire, we will discuss these details and find a time that works best for your family!
When will I receive my images?
Once your session has concluded, I will edit and deliver 3-5 sneak peek images within 72 hours of your session. I like to deliver sneak peeks since, many times, having a professional photoshoot done is a big deal! Your final gallery will be delivered within 4-6 weeks of your scheduled session.
What happens in the event of rain or other extreme weather?
If your session is scheduled for outdoors, I'll be watching the weather forecast the day of our session. If it looks like it will rain, I will be in touch via text or email and make the decision whether or not to postpone. I like to wait as late as possible to actually postpone because stormy skies right after or before rain are absolutely gorgeous, so if it’s not raining, we will be out there shooting! If there is other extreme weather coming during your sessions, such as tornados or high air pollution, we will discuss our options and reschedule if needed. In the case of any postponement, I will try to accommodate your session as soon as my schedule allows.
